Stéphanie Janaina | Pièce de Résistance: Margot

Casa Maauad, Mexico City, presents Pièce de Résistance: Margot, a project by Mexican choreographer, artist and dancer Stéphanie Janaina in collaboration with Mauricio Ascencio, Juan Pablo Villegas and Rolando Hernandez. Pièce de Résistance: Margot is made up of a video, installation, and performance. (TIME, SPACE, TRACE)

If nothing saves us from death, at least having her close will save us from life. Death is an absolute; everything else becomes small, insignificant. The Grim Reaper, la Huesuda, la Calaca, la Calavera, la Catrina, all sublime before our eyes. They reveal a physical helplessness that we can only contemplate. We put a frame around them, something that allows us to create an image of only what we wish perceive. We peer into the construction of reality, never reality itself. We cannot contemplate the violence of death it in its entirety 1)( ) Our gaze is primitive, like a snail, we can only see a centimeter into the distance < I. Perhaps it is the absence of vision that allowed the snail travel to the underworld and
reappear intact, as believed by many indigenous tribes of North America.

*A snail does not face violence or danger; it takes refuge in itself. Within its apparent ability to disappear, it puts itself into isolation.
