Peru’s government has given its approval to an environmental impact study conducted by developer Odebrecht Energia for its 600-MW Chadin 2 hydropower project.
Reviewed by the Energy Environmental Affairs Department of Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines, the EIS addressed legal and technical requirements. Odebrecht Energia subsidiary AC Energia submitted the report in 2011.
Chadin 2 will be located in the Marañon River Basin. The project also includes a 175-meter-high by 370-meter-tall dam, which is expected to create a reservoir of more than 32 square kilometers.
